First time I ever smoked a stone pipe was a crudely made of onyx stone that my grandfather and I put together in his workshop. He was explaining to me that during the depression he didn’t have enough money to go buy a smoking pipe, so he would make a stone pipe and smoked a bowl of weed. So that is exactly what he and I did, we made a handmade stone pipe and smoked weed. I thought it was so awesome.

An article by Dan Gold titled “Why Don’t People Smoke weed with wood Pipes Any More,” appeared in the Jan 18, 2020 EA Carey (Europe) Ltd newsletter and provided some insight into pipe smoking back then and its decline today. Gold points out that in the early part of the last century, wood pipe smoking was the normal. Men viewed their smoking pipes as part of their haberdashery. Marijuana would design the pipe to complement a gentleman’s face structure and his choice of clothing.
